Vicinity Paradise S-2, parked between several hunter tents and rvs with more
vehicles driving by than the last 20 times out there put together. We had ONE
SE Owl at 1648 hours, cst.
No Harriers.
That was it for 40 minutes of observing parked at one spot. Shari spotted the
owl about 300-350 meters away, with her very good Zeiss binocs. Then it was
dark.....but more...the very thin crescent sliver of the Moon 30 degrees up in
the west....we did have two birds in the top of a high tree about 500 meters
away...but needed a scope, which we did not bring....probably black birds, not
big enuf for owls. They moved around several times, then flew, but none of that
was observed.
We will return when the hunting season is over in 12 days....maybe another cold
front will roar down pushing more Owls and Northern Harriers.
By the way on another Owensboro run last week we had six red tail hawks between
Island and Owensboro all on the US 431 east side power lines. Shari gets a kick
out of counting those Hawks.
Our bush hog strips of "weeds," is productive for sparrows...up and quickly
down...must start carry the binocs. Little dark sparrows.
