This week has been a good one for birds migrating over the house. 9/12 Barn Swallows trickled over in small groups during the course of several hours 9/13 adult Red-headed Woodpecker male Rose-breasted Grosbeak 9/14 adult Red-headed Woodpecker (2) Nighthawks Swainson's Thrushes lone Purple Martin 9/15 Broad-winged hawk (2) Great Blue heron (5) several hawks dropped in at dusk but the light was so poor I couldn't ID 9/16 I had the pleasure of watching, in the space of an hour, 256+ Broad-winged hawks go over and to the west of the house – from single birds to groups of 30 birds. Most were headed southwest and flying fairly high.
