This cool morning, a flock of Rough-winged Swallows coursed back and forth across my pond. Due to the dry spell, a mud flat has appeared at one spot. I thought that if I focused on the mud flat, I might catch a swallow in flight as it passed over. I had no luck at first. When a swallow appeared in the frame it would be gone before I snapped the shutter. Then it occurred to me not to look directly at my camera screen, but to look beyond at the mud flat while holding the camera pointed at the mud flat. As I saw a swallow approaching the mud flat, I would click as it passed over the mud flat without looking at my screen. Got several shots that way. None very good, but I might get some better ones with practice.
