I've often heard Blue Jays make pretty convincing Red-tailed Hawk calls.
What I hadn't heard before today was a Blue Jay and a Red-tailed Hawk
calling back and forth across a field.
The Blue Jay was fairly well-hidden in the middle of a tree, so I don't
know if the hawk was able to see it or not. At any rate, they called
back and forth a good dozen times before the hawk went silent.
The jay appeared to want to keep going. After the hawk went silent, the
jay became more incessant and added more variations to its calls. But
it, too, went quiet once the hawk flew off.
