Yesterday afternoon at the Central City Walmart gas station a red shoulder was
setting on a power line in perfect low angle light. It was the reddish red
shoulder we have ever observed.
Later at Sinclair WMA close to Goose Lake a Red Tailed Hawk was similarly
spotlighted with the white chest.
Then, we drove the 3.2 mile S-2 loop and did not see a single Harrier Hawk or
Short- eared Owl.
The hunters are set up at S-2 in large OD general purpose Army style tents, so
you cannot drive up to the S-2 high spot, which for years has been our most
productive Owl watching spot. The hunters will be gone in several days.
Recently, we have noticed many power line hawks and Kestrels.
