Driving around Ballard WMA today revealed several flocks of ducks heading south as well as dropping out at Mitchell Lake. A brief scan with binoculars showed, gadwalls, widgeons, shovelers, mallards, pintails and green-w teal as well as several hundred tree, bank, and rough-w swallows. Also there is a large push of tree swallows headed south. I saw numerous small flocks over cut soybeans and corn fields far from the river. Mitchell Lake closes to public access the 15th so now would be a great time to look for waterfowl and lingering shorebirds. Scott Record Ragland KY
