Robert Dever and I poked around western Henderson County for awhile this afternoon. About the only place with many birds was the slough on the east side of Horseshoe Road. Today all of the same waterfowl were present EXCEPT the Mottled Duck, which had been replaced by, of all things, a Surf Scoter! There has also been a female Lesser Scaup on this body of water. Shorebirds there were again numerous and varied with the following minimum totals counted: 17 Black-bellied Plovers 6 Killdeer 100+ Semi Plovers 3 Les Yellowlegs 3 Spotted Spipers 8 Ruddy Turnstones 120+ Semi Spipers 2 Least Spipers 4 White-rumped Spipers 2 Stilt Spipers 10 Short-billed Dowitcher (1 eastern bird still there) 60 Dunlin We also saw a Eurasian Collared-Dove near the town of Waverly and had 9 more Black-bellied Plovers and 4 Least Terns at Peabody's Camp No 9 coal prep plant in Union County. On return home early evening, the drying slough between US 41 and Ellis Park Racetrack had a nice collection of shorebirds including a Greater Yellowlegs, 50+ Semi Plovers, 40 Dunlin, a Ruddy Turnstone, 2 White-rumps, and 60+ Semi Sps along with a few Spottys and Least. bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
