I will feel REALLY bad if a bird that Mark Monroe, Ben Yandell, Matt Stickel and I saw yesterday turns out to actually be a first-winter Little Gull and we didn't mention it to everyone. Yesterday afternoon we had a bird with a flock of Bonys that I think is too big for a Little Gull, but after reviewing books and photos on the web this morning, I still am unclear as to what this bird is. It is in first-winter plumage and superficially has a first-winter Little Gull wing pattern. Some things just don't look right about it, though, (at least to me) including its size and bill shape/size. It was with about 100+ Bonys (including several first-winters) at the KY 730 bridge over Eddy Creek, Lyon County (DeLorme KY Gazetteer, page 60-, block H-5. You can park at the boat ramp parking lot just S of the bridge and walk back along KY 730 (be careful for passing traffic). The bird was on the east side of the bridge. If anyone gets a better impression of what this bird is, please share it with us all. bpb, Louisville brainard.palmer-ball AT mail.state.ky.us ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
