I just got back from a relatively comprehensive check of the Ohio River at and
just upstream from Louisville. Certainly can tell that not much of the Great
Lakes have frozen this winter; sort of back to our usual mid-winter doldrums
this year. This time last year we had interesting gulls galore, all three
scoters, and lots of common divers.
Below Falls to Cox's Park:
Gulls ... about 20 Ring-billed Gulls total seen; not a single Herring.
Dabblers ... just a few Mallards
Divers ... about 35-40 Redheads; 9 Canvasback; 3 Greater Scaup; about 25 Lesser
Scaup, 12 or so Bufflehead, about 40 Common Goldeneye, a few Hooded Mergansers;
7 Ruddy Ducks.
