For about five hours this afternoon, Brian Wulker and I searched unsuccessfully
for the previously reported Brown Pelican at Barren River Lake. I think we
covered the main lake relatively well. The only birds of note were single
Caspian Terns at two locations, scattered Double-crested Cormorants, and a
single Great Egret.
On Sunday's initial post about the pelican, I failed to thank John Brunjes with
Ky Dept of Fish and Wildlife Resources for forwarding news of the pelican's
discovery (and photo) by another KDFWR staff person, Brett Zalla, on Saturday.
It's nice that at least several in the birding community were able to add it to
state and annual lists.
