Jamie Baker, Teresa Graham, and I birded northern McLean and eastern Hopkins counties yesterday, covering as many areas of receding floodwater as we could find. I think we saw somewhere between 7500 and 10,000 waterbirds, but probably could only identify about 1/4 of them due to heat shimmer and distance. We stopped at various spots along KY 85, KY 1155, KY 2385, KY 254, and KY 281 where we could get close enough to waterbird concentrations to ID at least a portion of the birds. We also checked Lake Peewee and had only relatively small numbers of common waterbirds but including 4 gorgeous Common Loons.
