05 July 2011: A brief visit to the KY 739 Transient Pond in Logan County this morning yielded the following birds. 5-Jul-2011 KY-Logan KY 739 Transient Pond Mallard ~70 Including several broods of ducklings of various ages Wood Duck 2 At least 2 Wood Duck juveniles were present in the mess of Mallards Ring-billed Duck 2 apparent pair Black-necked Stilt 2 Killdeer ~30 estimate, uncounted Least Sandpiper 1 It should be noted that the water is falling fairly rapidly now and that the pond will not be with us too much longer. Also note that I accidentally flushed about 40 of the Mallards present. I expect they will return, but cannot be certain. Highlights were the continued presence of the Black-necked Stilts and the apparent pair of Ring-billed Duck along with the Least Sandpiper. That concludes this report.
