[birdky] RPT: G.B. Heron Rookery on Shippingport Island

Today I observed 16 Great Blue Heron nests on Shippingport Island in Jefferson County. The rookery is best viewed from George Rogers Clark Cabin or the boat ramp picnic area in Clarksville, IN. Look straight across the river, to the left of the 4 lower gates on the dam. Approx 25 herons were working on or hanging around the nest sites.
The osprey have returned and again are buiding a nest on the cell tower above the hydroelectric dam. Hope they have sucess this year.
20 Bonaparte's Gulls were feeding below the lower gates at the hydroelectric dam.
Nice numbers of Double-crested Cormorant (325 +) were seen between Clark Cabin and the Falls Interpretive Center.
No ducks other than a few mallards were observed.
