June 30, 2012: A number of dickcissels were singing today from exposed
perches at the Booth Tract of the Clay WMA. This is the first summer that
they have shown up. Clay WMA is a quail habitat focus area. In the last
4-5 years, the majority of fescue fields have been converted to a native mix
of grasses and forbs (i.e. "weeds" galore). Quail are increasing too.
