Pam Spaulding, Carl & JoAnne Bochmann, and I just saw the Black-throated Gray
in tall white pines southeast of the house.
I will probably quit posting daily updates for this bird; if it continues, some
will probably appear in daily eBird alerts. I have essentially quit looking for
it during the afternoon; I have *never* been able to find it between 1:15 pm
and 5:00 pm, although it has been seen a couple of times during that time of
day. It has been found most often during the morning hours into early afternoon
and then a few times late in the day. If anyone wishes to know the status of
the bird, please email me. Otherwise I will post occasional updates if it
continues. At some point I plan to put a gallery of shots by everyone on my
Flickr stream but have not done that yet.
Molt limit in the wing coverts/alula and pattern of the greater and median wing
coverts, as well as the primarily white throat, all indicate that this is a
hatch-year female, very similar in appearance to the bird at Lexington winter
1986-87.
