May I remind the considerate birders who have the best interests of the owl in
mind, the more the uneducated public observes people in stopped vehicles
staring at the bird, the more those members of the public are going to also get
interested in it and chat with others about it and cause potential harm to the
little thing. I suspect the danger to this bird is not the birders, but the
public and ALL vehicles with or without birders as occupants.
I think it's a definite possibility that the bird may be in trouble, but I
won't try to speculate on whether someone might try to intervene - will leave
that to those of you more informed. But I will say that I'm worried about the
little owl due to its proximity to the roadway and the harm that may come to it
from several sources.
