Mammoth Cave was very good this morning with FOS Tennessee, 4 Blackpolls, and
Palm Warblers. At least 5 Blue-winged, and a good look at a Chat. Ended the
morning with 20 warbler species. The brisk southern winds should bring many
more northern migrants this week. The wildflowers are outstanding this year.

So everyone is texting, emailing, and
calling to say that I am crazy (so what's new?) ... no
migrants other than on my farm ...
I have been out working on a fence all morning and I have to
say that after an initial rush of song around 730 to 900,
the birds really quieted down. However, there *are* lots of
birds. Where I have been seeing a few Savannah Sparrows
lately there are probably more than a dozen; a short stretch
of open fence that has had nothing but local bluebirds
lately first had two and now has four Eastern Kingbirds.
Other new birds include lots more Palms and Myrtles than
have been around, and a Summer Tanager and a couple of
Red-eyed Vireos.
On the nesting front, I inadvertently kicked a Wild Turkey
off 13 eggs day before yesterday, a female Wood Duck
appeared on the pond a couple of days ago with 12 ducklings,
and the Killdeer are keeping watchful eyes on four
youngsters that are working the shoreline.
