We finally had a success on our Bluebirds. At the end of May, our mother
Bluebird had mysteriously lost both her partner and all of the babies (less
than 1 week out of the shell). She almost immediately found another male
and laid 5 eggs. Their choice of "house" was an old gourd that wasn't
vented very well, but they seemed satisfied. We can happily report that
they were able to raise 2 babies to flight this past weekend.

Our Bobwhite mother was out over the weekend with her 7 babies. They were
foraging around the pond and field. Then trotted off after watching us for
several minutes.

Our Eastern Kingbird did find a mate. I haven't seen any young yet, but I'm
sure they will have some.

We have had more than the usual number of Tree Swallows and Barn Swallows
this year. Since we are surrounded by corn and hayfields, it may be that
their territory hasn't been as affected as in some areas where new housing
is going up. Or it may just mean they haven't found greener pastures
somewhere else. In fact, almost all of our birds have been in greater
quantify than last year. The Thrashers have gone on a family growth spurt!
And they are feeding closer to the house then before.

We also had both house and Carolina wrens at the same time, although last
year they didn't cross paths for as long as this year. The house wrens are
still here.
