Last evening at the Sinclair S-2 high spot in the setting sunlight between
4:50 and 5:20 pm cst we observed a conservative count of 11 Short Ears and
almost an equal number of Harriers. The lighting was perfect. At times we
had four owls and or hawks in the binocs field of view. Steve and Teresa
Graham were also observing and their spotting scope helped as some of the
birds were a distance away. Twice we had two owls in the same tree, with one
of them in the very tip top. We had a good look at one owl that sat on the
ground for at least 15 minutes, alerting turning it's head constantly. The
sunlight on one Meadowlark was brilliant. As the daylight faded the planet
Jupiter and the half Moon appeared straight overhead and close together. It
will be interesting to observed the relation of those objects tonight.

This is the highest Short Ear Owl count we have had in one day this season.
