Parked my truck by the next tobacco patch to be topped & oiled yesterday
afternoon. As I walked on over to the work area, a turkey hen appeared from
behind some weeds at the end of the patch. She was within 10 feet of me. I
stopped. She didn’t take flight. Instead, she continued walking slowly while
softly clucking. A chick appeared from the weeds behind her and followed along.
Then another and another. When I thought all had passed, I moved on, but one
chick was trailing far behind and it flew a short distance the opposite way
when I got too close to it.
