12 birders joined me for our Cherokee Park walk today. Birding was.... what's
the word.... slow!!
We tried our best to find Warblers playing Marco Polo and a Scarlet Tanager
playing Peek-a-boo.
We got lots a good exercise walking up hill and dale for what few birds we did
see, or as Nancy Vance said , I had heard 2 miles away!! Hehe ;) we all know it
was 1.75 miles....
You know you are having a pitiful day birding when even joggers are bragging
about seeing Hummingbirds and you are asking THEM where at!! The joggers saw
two but hey we did see one to end our walk!!! :)
49 species were seen/heard by the group. Highlights of birds seen in short
glimpses, nanoseconds, and heard 1.75 miles away include: H=heard only
Broad-winged Hawk
Great-crested Flycatcher
Purple Martin- flyover
Barn Swallow- flyover
Chimney Swifts
Ruby-throated Hummingbird FOY
