Hello Seth,

I live up in Hart County, just north of the park. I actually work as a
seasonal guide at Mammoth Cave. My wife and I are avid birders and would
welcome your company anytime. We have a group of friends that get together
for occasional birding days and two annual CBC's.
The park itself is an outstanding location for migrant passerines, as well
as a nice assortment of residents. I do a couple of BBS routes through there
each spring. Barren River Lake can be good for waterfowl, but is can also be
empty. Warm weather brings too much boat traffic. The best waterfowl spots
are the two big lakes in western KY and the Ohio R.
Have you found the KOS website at http://biology.eku.edu/kos/default.htm ?
There is a section there about good birding locations.
If you have the time, you should consider coming to our spring meeting. It's
April 26th - 28th at Carter Caves State Resort Park, in eastern KY. If you
decide to attend, tell them you're with KOS when you get a room. If you're a
senior or have AAA, tell them that, too.

Where do you live? Do you work at the park? I am very intermittent right
now, but I will be starting a Sunday - Wednesday schedule on March 24th. I
am working this Friday. If it's not too far, come by the visitor center and
ask for me. You can call the shift office at 270-758-2434 to find out if
I'll be on a tour before you come.

Janet and I frequently bird in the park and we'd be glad to have your
company. There are several KOS trips annually there as well.
I look forward to meeting you.

Hi all,
My name is Seth Spencer and I recently moved to Mammoth Cave, Ky. I was an
avid birder in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and am now looking for good birding
locations somewhat near Mammoth Cave. Any advice would be great!
Also, if anyone is ever in the area and looking for another birder to join
you, please let me know. Thanks!
Seth Spencer
