This week Phyllis Deal of Lexington found a huge Purple Martin roost in
northwest Lexington. It is difficult to estimate their numbers; I would guess
that there were many thousands tonight. It is an impressive sight.
The birds can be observed from a road on the east side of the Northside YMCA at
381 West Loudon Avenue. The birds are roosting in the trees behind the feed
mill at 251 Loudon. The birds start gathering in the area about 8:00 PM and are
in the trees around 9:00.
