Hi everyone,
I saw Brainard and Steve's posts about "common" sightings, and I know many of
you might be coming out to the KY Dam Village area this weekend for the KOS
meeting. I've recently (last week) started a new job as the Naturalist /
Recreation Supervisor at Kentucky Dam Village, and while I've been pretty busy
trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing, I've been trying to keep my
ears open while I've been out and about around the park.
If you're coming out this way this weekend and are curious what's been around,
here are some birds I've observed in and nearby the park in the past several
days. Sorry it's kind of disorganized, and not a complete list (I left out the
super common ones, etc.):
- Prothonotary Warbler- Tennessee Warbler- Black-and-White Warbler- Pine
Warbler- Common Yellowthroat- Kentucky Warbler- Louisiana Waterthrush-
Yellow-throated Warbler- Yellow-throated Vireo- Warbling Vireo- Northern
Parula- Prairie Warbler- Indigo Bunting- Orchard Oriole- Chimney Swift-
Ruby-throated Hummingbird- Eastern Kingbird- Barn Swallow- House Wren- Wood
Thrush- Red-headed Woodpecker (one has been hanging out in the trees in the
park lodge parking lot)- Osprey- Red-shouldered Hawk- Barred Owl- Great Horned
Owl (one has taken over an osprey nest on a power tower on the highway near the
park)- Bald Eagle- Great Crested Flycatcher- Blue-gray Gnatcatcher- Fish Crow
I hope everyone has a great weekend in Western Kentucky, and I hope to be able
to see many of you at Kentucky Dam Village!
