Mike and all,
We save hair from our two Yorkshire terriers after a hair cut in late
winter...and recently not treated with flea and tick medicine. We usually treat
our Yorkies once a year in spring because they are house dogs. I think their
hair, cut in late winter, would be safe. The orioles really like horse hair if
you can find someone with horses. I use suet cake holders to present the hair
to birds.

My wife says we cannot provide dog hair as nest material because we treat our
dog with flea and tick medication. But I wonder if proving the dog hair
might have a beneficial side effect - killing bird mites in the nest.

I just started jelly jar number
2, with at least eight Baltimore Orioles coming regularly
the jelly goes quickly. Red-bellied Woodpeckers, cardinals
and a pair of robins are also feeding on the
jelly...amazing. The female orioles
are also gathering horse and dog hair I put out for their
nest building.
