Black-bellied plover around noon at the Falls of the Ohio Wave Rock area (downriver from Interpretive Center, which is reached from Indiana side). Juvenile with beautiful golden-flecked plumage on back. Black "armpits" observed. Same area had 1 semipalmated plover, 1 semipalmated sandpiper, 1 pectoral sandpiper, 1 spotted sandpiper, and a tree swallow. Peregrine falcon was seen on Big 4 railroad bridge. Sedge wren, Wilson's snipe, swamp and Lincoln's sparrows mid-afternoon at Garvin Brown Preserve near Hays Kennedy Park. Previously reported Nelson's sharp-tailed sparrow was not found for certain (but may have been one of the birds that popped up and back down). Also seen in Jefferson County today at the above locations or Caperton Swamp: * blue-headed and white-eyed vireos * warblers, from most to least seen: yellow-rumped, common yellowthroat, Tennessee, palm, magnolia, black-throated green, Am. redstart, and 1 each of the following: bay-breasted, black-and-white, chestnut-sided, Nashville * other: 200+ double-crested cormorants along the river, osprey, distant dark gull (imm. herring??), summer tanager, indigo bunting, yellow-bellied sapsucker, both kinglets.
