Three in cental, south Florida in mid January, 2nd and 3rd week.
Everglades, Lake Apopka and Spacecoast.
If interested, email or give me a call. We have been to many of the locations,
not all but...i.e., a wonderful winter escape as daily birds and wx from 48 to
74, little higher temp.in the Everglades and Keys, where high can reach 84, not
unusual.
Plus, the 3 Volusia County Audubon clubs have many club trips, all invited, in
Jan., Daytona Beach-Edgewater-Deland with esp. some interesting trips out of
West Volusia Audubon in Deland with Eli...Several of the main trip leaders are
involved with the festivals.
Eg. if Gulls are your thing don't miss South Daytona Beach, Frank Rendon Park,
daily, 3:30 to 6 pm, around 30,000 gulls, they say the most on the east coast.
During the morning and mid-day the Gulls are inland at the Daytona Beach dump,
which is also a good birding area, but sign-in and stay out of the way of big
trucks, really not a problem, as the trucks go up to the top to dump and
birders do the perimeter road. High number of wood storks and esp. Bald Eagles
here.
But, our favorite drive is Black Point on Merritt Island NWR, great 7 mile
drive.
Must end this, but the 11 mile Lake Apopka drive turns up yearly the highest
inland Christmas count in the US, only some NWRs on the Tx coast with lots of
ducks top Apopka.
Spacecoast is a large festival and registration is $95 till midnight Dec. 8,
then it goes up $35, but a lot is included....Suggest do a search and check the
schedule of activities, or give me a call or email.
Short-eared owls on the rare side in FL, but Burrowing Owls can be easily found
if you go to the right location in south and sw FL. Titusville is a 16 hr.
drive from West KY, easy 2 day drive.
