Evelyn Morgan had a great idea, which I would like to pass along to all. For
only $ 3 each, KOS members can apply for these licenses. With only 400 permits
in the state, we can get a significant percentage of them and then not use
them. This year especially, a lot of hunters won't know about them yet. If it
saves some cranes, it's worth a try.

Subject: [birdky] Important Sandhill crane info from KDFWR in local newspapers

(reminder - only $1.50 to kill a migrating Sandhill crane in KY.....) Â This
information published in Frankfort State-Journal on 11/17/11 - Â "Crane hunting
applications open Applications for permits for the state’s first sandhill
crane hunting season are available until Nov. 30.
Applications cost $3 each and available online though the Kentucky Department
of Fish and Wildlife Resources website, www.fw.ky.gov. Hunters may only apply
once.
Fish and wildlife will randomly draw up to 400 names for permits, and hunters
must first pass an identification test.
Hunting season for sandhill cranes begins Dec. 17 and lasts through Jan. 15, or
until hunters take 400 cranes. Each hunter can take two sandhill cranes and
must register them with the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources."
