I braved the deer flies, but finally gave up.
I waked the recently mowed trail to Pond Creek Marsh, then tried to do the
south dike of Hardy Slough. Gave up on that idea with all the deer flies trying
to bite.
While Sauerheber Unit is good birding, I do not recommend the area during the
Deer Fly season. (The Deer Fly season seems to be most of summer!!)

Next I drove out to West Franklin Road. Found only Killdeer at Sand Slough.
Along McDonald Landing Rd. I had 1 Lark Sparrow perched on the power line with
1 female Blue Grosbeak and 1 Mourning Dove.
I took some pix and then as I drove on by they left.
Coming back the Lark Sparrow and Blue Grosbeak were back at the same location.
