Regarding the Mandarin, I had a neighbor on Thixton Lane that raised
Mandarinsbut had their wings clipped. I am wondering if one was not clipped and
"flew the coup"?Steve Rogers

Hi Patrice,Thanks for your response. There have been no checklists at all from
Anchorage trail on April 30.I did a thorough search on eBird and as far as the
records on eBird go, no mandarin duck has ever been reported from anywhere in
the entire state of Kentucky. The mandarin duck is extremely colorful and I
would love to see one. I wonder who saw the "mandarin duck" and where?

Hi Patrice,
Where was the mandarin duck reported? I tried looking it up on eBird but
could not find any report.

A mandarin duck was reported yesterday (4/30?19) at tom Sawyer State Park at
one of the ponds. A photo was provided with the eBird List.
I started looking for the mandarin duck, yesterday, at 5 pm. I didn't see
any life in the Turtle Pond, so I went to the pond in back of this one.
Starting at the west end of the Vernal Pond, I made my way east along the
edge of the pond. From the water's edge, I could see across the pond to the
other side. I made my way "ducking" under branches and climbing over fallen
logs along the rough edge. About halfway to the end, I saw a male wood duck
sitting on a log that was sticking out of the water in the center of the
pond and two other male wood ducks swimming close by. Continuing east, I saw
another male wood duck sitting on a branch that was sticking out of the
water and two more male wood ducks swimming near this one. From this point,
I could see down to the end. of the pond.
Two of the ducks started heading west, so I made my way to the west end and
saw two male ducks with a female that were heading east. I then went down
the south side of the pond where there are only two access points to the
edge. The south side is bordered by a fence - there is viewing at points
through the fence along the way. Five of the male wood ducks beat me there.
Unfortunately, I didn't see the mandarin duck. But, the wood ducks can hold
their own in the style department.
