That present there does no seem to be any scarcity of Blue Jays on my farm in Franklin County. While out in the woods over the past 2 weeks, I have seen quite a few. Since the end of Blue Jay migration last month, I have seen VERY FEW Blue Jays in Kentucky. I suppose that this may end up being one of those rare years when most all of the birds go farther south. They are around, but I've run across no sizable flocks in the vicinity of Louisville, Bernheim Forest, and Peabody WMA, and am rarely seeing them pass over the road when traveling (something that, of course, is normally quite common this time of year). I suspect the well-documented scarcity of mast that will be affecting other wildlife through the winter may be responsible, but I'm not sure. We will be able to look at Christmas Bird Count numbers for some documentation of this event, but if everyone tries to pay particular attention to this aspect of your winter birding, it might yield some very interesting information on how scarce they end up being. bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
