Mike, I have used an SLR (Pentax Spotmatic from the 1980s) with a 200 mm lens and extension tubes and was moderately satisfied. Then I got Bushnell scope with a cameral attachment and that worked better. About 1995 I got a KOWA scope with the camera attachment and the quality of the pictures got better -- however I still had a focus problem. Christmas of 2001 I got a digital camera (Fujifilm 2800 zoom) and the quality of my pictures are the best yet. While I have to hold the camera up to the eyepiece of my KOWA, I have very little difficulty with alignment because the image is washed out if I do not have it flush with the eyepiece. I have attached a picture I took of the Snowy Owl when it was in Pendleton County in 2002. I am sure professional photographers would find fault with it, I am not disappointed at all. I hope this helps a little. While expensive, I have thoroughly enjoyed taking pictures of birds for my own sake. I have yet to try submitting any of them for publication or for contests. Good luck. I was wondering if anyone has some helpful tips on what brands of camera and lens that are required to take moderate quality pictures. Also I don't know whether to go with something like an 800mm lens or a spotting scope to photograph at a distance. Any information will be appreciated on this topic. > > Mike Kenawell > Lexington, KY > > ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== > > The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign > your messages with first & last name, city, & > state abbreviation. > -------------------------------------------------- > To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: > birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > -------------------------------------------------- > To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: > birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. > * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * > Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society > web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm > * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * > BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY > E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx -- Binary/unsupported file stripped by Ecartis -- -- Type: image/jpeg -- File: 379-020224_SnowyOwl14.JPG ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
