Two miles north of Dot in Logan County - I have spent almost zero time focused
primarily on birding this entire spring. I seem to have more ongoing projects
that need to be done yesterday than I ever did in my ‘working’ years. About the
only birds I’ve reported recently are ones that demanded my attention. That was
the deal with a Dickcissel yesterday afternoon. Alison and I were reviewing our
work day as we walked our usual front field circle and not visually focusing on
much other than dodging cow patties. Then a Dickcissel a few steps up ahead
proclaimed, “Look at me! No wait! Let me show you my best side!”
When that happens, you have to record it no matter what else you have on your
mind.
