At about 11:45, Alison and I were sitting in Governor’s Square Mall in
Clarksville, TN, munching on lunch. Phone rings. I presume it’s junk because if
the caller isn’t identified, it’s always junk. But no. It’s Debbie Hamilton
calling to tell me about a Burrowing Owl just off U.S. 79, in Todd County,
which we had just driven down to get to Clarksville. After Krogering, we
stopped by on the way home and viewed the owl through Hap Chambers scope. I
returned with my own scope to view it some more. Someone said it had been
sitting in a crack in the pavement by Doctor Boyles Road since 12:30 P.M. None
of us could see anything but the owl’s head peeping up. Vehicles were
frequently passing right beside it, but it merely hunkered down a little as
they passed. I took a number of pictures of just its head. Then in leaving, I
drove on down the road beyond it and rolled the window down on the way back by.
It did hunker down, but I could still see it much better than I could from
where I had been watching it. I posted one picture of just its head taken
through the scope and one shot taken with my sx-160 as I drove right by it.
