Hello, Pickings are slim still. I am hoping for a good storm to roll through the area and put some birds down. I walked through the high weeds and dead Queen Anne's Lace to sit on the the mud flats at the back of the pond and had a flock of roughly 15 Least and Semi P's land no further that 20' away from me, giving awsome looks at the details. 2 of the Great Egrets were doing a wee bit of a battle off the far end of the pond. This lasted for about 5 mins or so before the loser started giving the winner a little more hunting space. I recommend anyone in the area that has a pass to go there in the evenings and go to the Herrington LAke side of the pond. Last night I watched 4 very large bucks(2 six pointers, 1 eight pointer, and 1 ten pointer) feeding just below the area where they store spare parts and junk. Mixed in with the bucks was a small 4 pointer. 7 mature doe and 4 yealings (fading spots). Are there no other places around Danville/Lexington area to see decent flocks of shorebirds(mid-upper 100's) ? I find it hard to believe there isn't more places around other than the power plant. Are there any county owned wetlands used for education, etc? Do any of the smaller state owned lakes have propagation areas in them that may have "good mud"? Heres the list from Brown Power Plant for today : Spotted Sandpipers Least Sandpipers Semipalmated Sandpipers Western Sandpiper (3) Great Egrets Great Blue Heron D.C. Cormorant Grey Catbird Mockingbird E. Meadowlark N. Cardinal Starling (surprise surprise) Turkey Vulture Black Vulture Song Sparrow Killdeer (one chasing a grasshopper around the mud flats. Made for good viewing) Take care, Ed Richards Danville, Ky _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
