[birdky] Bowling Green CBC 21 December 2005 and Larue County

The Bowling Green CBC was conducted today, and
although I don't have totals from the other parties I
will report highlights from the southern part of the
circle which I covered.
Lack of water in the transient lakes resulted in the
only waterfowl recorded being at Griffin Park. The
Cackling Geese which were present on the 18th were
absent today. Species of note observed were American
Black, Pintail, Gadwall, Bufflehead, Lesser Scaup,
Ring-necked, and Ruddy.
Fifteen Red-tailed Hawks were recorded with at least
four being western-type birds, including the
light-morph harlani and his mate wintering on the WKU
farm (his 5th winter there). Others included a
calurus x krideri intergrade at McElroy Lake area(dry)
which was present there last winter, and a calurus x
borealis or krideri also present on the WKU farm.
Really intersting birds.
Additional highlights:
Loggerhead Shrike (1)
Chipping Sparrow (3 in my yard)
Savannah Sparrow (84 with 65 at the WKU Farm)
Lapland Longspur (4)
I spent yesterday afternoon in Larue County with Lyn
and Brooks Atherton photographing birds. Species of
note observed were Loggerhead Shrike, Palm Warbler
(4-6), and migrating Sandhill Cranes (175-200 with all
but 18 in one flock).
