The spring Boone County North American Migration Count was held on Saturday, May 10, 2003. A total of 126 species were recorded on the day by the 16 particpants. Highlights included Double-crested Cormorant (91), Common Merganser (2), Peregrine Falcon (1 dining on a Wood Duck), Laughing Gull (1 adult seen at the East Bend Power Plant}, Loggerhead Shrike (1), 25 species of warblers including Black-throated Blue, Dickcissel (1), and Bobolink (33). A Great Blue Heron nest at the East Bend Power Plant held three young birds.
