I measured on Google Maps and the spot is more like 1/2 mile
north/northeast of the bridge, not 1/4 mile east as I indicated. Almost
directly across from the south end of Hayes Kennedy Park.

We saw a Black Scoter today from the Indiana Shore about 1/4 mile upstream
from the Lewis and Clark Bridge on Upper River Road (east of Utica). We
viewed it through an opening in the woods where we could see the river from
the road. No place to stop there, but low traffic allowed us to stop on the
road and watch it for about ten minutes. First noticed Canada Geese, then
ducks swimming near them, and then we noticed the Scoter. It was
about 20-30 feet off the shore.
