Spent a couple hours birding with my son in the early a.m. on the 23rd around the Mitchell Lake area. Most notable is the lowering levels in Mitchell lake and Lower Beaver Dam Slough and growing numbers of shorebirds and waders. The bar off Mitchell Lake levee is becoming bigger each day and Lower Beaver Dam slough is drying up. Shorebird habitat on the north end of Mitchell is developing and should be about right in the coming months if the rains hold off a little longer. Birds of interest: Great Blue heron--20 Great Egret --300 Little Blue Heron -- 3 M. Kite -- 2 Killdeer -- 30 Solitary Sp. -- 10 Least Sp -- 5 Pectoral Sp -- 40 Grasshopper Sparrow-- 2 Also had a nice look at a Forster's Tern while fishing on Jonathan Creek today.
