We just had a rather long visit from a second-year Great Blue Heron to our patio pond, which is not much bigger than the birdâs wingspan and is only less than ten yards from our great room windows. He/she sat on the fence right behind the pond for 20-30 minutes, then hopped down to the edge of the pond, waded in (standing on the submerged plant pots), and caught three goldfish before we decided that she/he had had enough. Got some good photos. Will go buy some more goldfish soon.
