Waitsboro Rec. Area, Lake Cumberland 1/10/04 Long-tailed Ducks 18!! I couldn't believe my eyes! Ruddy Duck 14 Red-breasted Merganser 1 Redhead at least 3 Canvasback 1 Horned Grebe 2 American Pipit 25+ They flew in and started foraging on the raft of wood along the bank. Also Lesser Scaup, Gadwall, Mallard, Canada Goose, American Black Duck & Pied-billed Grebe, Wayne County, Lake Cumberland and Cooley's Pond 14 species of waterfowl Horned Lark 2 Wilson's Snipe 16 I had a tip from Steve Stedman about a field that looked good for Short-eared Owl, so I decided to give it a try, since I was so close. There were 2 N HARRIERS working the field, then around 5:30pm est a SHORT-EARED OWL came up! It climbed up high, did the wing clap, then began hunting the area. Terry Campbell from TN happened by and we enjoyed the owl for a bit. A nice way to end the day. The Short-eared Owl field was on the north side of Hwy. 90, 8.6 miles west of the junction of 90 and 1275 at Monticello. I think it was in Wayne County, but will have to check the map. ~Roseanna Denton roseanna@xxxxxxxxxxx Science Hill, KY Pulaski County ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
