Last month the Board of Directors of Beckham Bird Club distributed the funds
that were collected in this year's BBC Birdathon. Listed below are the
organizations and the amount they received. In all $9740 was given to these
organizations for their projects. Thanks to all who generously support our
Birdathon
by making donations.

Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission - $2500 - The funds will be used
for the acquisition of land for the protection of plants, birds, and animals in
Kentucky.
Kentucky Natural Lands Trust - $2500 - Funds will go to the Pine Mountain
Legacy Project for acquisition of land in Bell County to protect forests in
order
to form a migratory corridor from Tennessee to Virginia.
Kentucky Resources Council - $1000- Funds will be used to support the KRC's
on-going efforts including advocacy, lobbying, and public education on
environmental issues.
Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky - $900 - Funds will sponsor six raptor
education programs at six schools reaching approximately 900 students in
Kentucky
public schools.
Louisville Nature Center - $840 - Funds will be used to pay for field trips
to the Nature Center for 120 students from underserved and underfunded schools
in Louisville. Students will learn about bird identification and the
importance of habitat.
Operation Migration - $1000 - Funds will help with the costs incurred with
the migration of Whooping Cranes. These Whooping Cranes are being led by
ultralights from Wisconsin to Florida.
Nature Conservancy - $1000 - Funds will be used with existing conservation
programs as incentives for private landowners to restore critical habitat
(Bottomland Hardwood trees) in the Bayou de Chien and Obion Creek watersheds
(Hickman, Fulton, Graves, & Carlisle Counties). There are several songbird
species
that are in desperate need for bottomland hardwood habitat restoration in
western Kentucky.

There may be additional funds coming in and these will be distributed equally
between Kentucky Nature Preserves Commission and the Kentucky Natural Land
Trust.
