The Board of Directors of Beckham Bird Club distributed the 2008 Birdathon funds that were raised this year. It was a new record year with over $13,000 donated. Again thanks to all who generously contributed to the BBC Birdathon. Below is the list of the recipients and the amount received.
Operation Migration - $1000 -To reintroduce a wild migratory population of Whooping Cranes to eastern North America.
Kentucky Nature Preserves Commission - $2500 – For the acquisition of 50 wooded acres in Franklin County to provide habitat for migrating warblers.
Kentucky Natural Land Trusts – $2000- To increase the protection of natural areas along the Pine Mountain corridor and to show landowners how to adopt sustainable forestry practices.
Kentucky Resources Council - $1000 - To aid the public in understanding environmental regulatory programs through advocacy, representation, lobbying, and public education on environmental issues.
Raptor Rehabilitation – $900 -To pay the cost of educational raptor programs for six schools unable to pay.
Louisville Nature Center – $1500 - Funds will be used to pay for field trips to the nature center for underfunded schools in Jefferson County.
Wingspan of Kentucky – $500-To underwrite birds of prey presentations for students, and underprivileged adults and children.
Blackacre Conservancy, Inc. – $1000- To establish habitat gardens to attract butterflies and birds. The gardens will serve as outdoor labs for educational programs for schools and the community.
E. P. Tom Sawyer State Park - $1000- To establish a vernal pool where native birds can flourish. The pool will also serve as an educational tool for the public.
Lost River Cave and Valley – $500- To continue the restoration and maintenance of the land to attract birds, and to build and /or purchase bird feeders, and maintain newly developed butterfly garden.
