Across the Gulf and get away from it all might consider the Pelican Club on Dog Island, Florida. Dog is a white-sand barrier island, most of which is owned by the Florida Nature Conservancy, so it is largely undeveloped. There is one inn-eight rooms-called the Pelican Club. All rooms look over the Gulf. It has electricity, running water, linens etc., but you have to bring all your food with you, as there are no commercial facilities on the island. Carrabelle is the port from which you catch a boat to the island. Not much there last week, but in April-May the migrants are plentiful. The inn has an 800 number. I think there is a website. If you can't find it, email me for the number. Since this spot is not well known to birders, I thought someone might be interested.
