We got the attached photo in September of last year in Bell County KY, on an
old reclaimed mountaintop mine site.

Subject: [birdky] AUGUST Avocets
Audubon calendar for August, wonderful picture of breeding color group of
Avocets !!!!
Anyone ever see similar sight in KY?
Probably not, as more common out west they say, esp., nwr north of Salt Lake
City, huge # of Avocets at right time of year, which is on my hit list. We did
see small # of breeding Avocets at a salty small lake at Cody, WYO a few years
ago.
And, we have observed as many as 5 to 20 Avocets, sometimes mixed with Black
Neck Stilts on Black Point Drive, Titusville, FL, in Jan., but not common, and
not in breeding colors.
