Jessica, Nora and I took our usual walk around the neighborhood this afternoon.
As is often the case, this led us to the Henry Clay Estate. As is just as
frequently the case, I had forgot my binoculars. Actually, that is not entirely
true. I've found that when I take my bins on our walks I am sure not to see
anything. So I make the conscious decision to leave the optics at home and
deal with the inevitable frustration later. And boy was it frustrating. Over
the course of about 45 minutes at the Estate (about 6:00pm) there were no fewer
than 200 birds total! It was busier than the most busy spring morning at the
Cemetery! While the most common birds were Carolina chickadees and tufted
titmice other birds that I could make out with definition included: downy
woodpecker, red-bellied woodpecker, white-breasted nuthatch, brown creeper,
ruby-crowned kinglet, blue-headed vireo, american redstart, black-throated
green warbler, blackburnian warbler, magnolia warbler. And these were all
pished down to less than 10ft away. No telling what else was there if I had
some binoculars! I've found the Henry Clay Estate a great place particularly
for fall migrants in the evenings. Today isn't the first time it's been this
busy, this time of year, that time of day.

The seed sale is coming up on Oct 13 & 20. I have gotten a really limited
response on people willing to help out this year. For those of you who
volunteered, thank you, but I still need help, especially with people willing
to load seed. Please help us out.
Thanks
