Only five of us ventured out for the CKAS Sandhill Crane trip down to Ceclia.
Roads were a little iffy to start with but cleared up quickly turning into a
nice day. We got our targets, seeing around 800 Sandhill Cranes. There were a
lot in the air moving around and in the fields. We were serenaded all day with
their calls. We also found the two Bald Eagles resident in the area. Overall we
totaled 44 species for the day, including finding a pair of Wood Ducks and
Pileated Woodpeckers, a Wilson's Snipe and Loggerhead Shrike, a large flock of
Horned Lark, some American Tree Sparrows, and a nice mix of our winter
residents.
