I heard a white throat singing in my yard earlier this week. I expect they
will be leaving soon...

Miscellany
Around the place:
-groups of brown creepers, 3+ at a time
-good numbers of kinglets (both species, with GC predominating)
-RB nuthatch (hadn't had since fall)
-lots-o-flickers
-increased field sparrows (one day last week, I thought there were at least 20!)
Last fall, Jessica wedged an old broken watering pail in our out-building.
"Maybe a wren will use it." Late winter we started seeing two Carolina wrens
exploring the building (as well as the garage if we ever left it open for too
long). A couple weeks ago
I saw nesting material in the pail. Last Friday there were eggs! She's laid 4
total and is sitting on them pretty consistently now.
Over the winter I built a bluebird box. My neighbor has a 2-3 acre field behind
us, and I placed it there the end of February. A chickadee has started nesting
in it. I think that means I placed it too close to the tree line (so I've
read).
This morning as I was out feeding the chickens, I heard a blue-headed vireo.
That seemed early, but a check of Brainard's KY bird book has them coming back
the last week of March.
