Tonight I located a large Martin roost near Nicholasville in Jessamine County.
It is at the northeast sector of the intersection of Rt. 169 and the
Nicholasville bypass (US27). It can be safely observed from the parking lot of
the KentuckyOne Health-Saint Joseph facility whose entrance in off 169. There
are signs.
I wouldn’t dare estimate its size: I would guess that it is larger than the one
in Lexington last year. There are also a significant number of starlings and a
few grackles in the roost.
It took me three nights to find it; the radar image can be misleading.
