Hi Tina,
I would say you certainly have both Scaup species, at least once in the same
shot! Shot #W6A9712 appears to have a Lesser in the foreground and Greater in
the background. Great comparison.

You may sense that I'm ready for spring in this email! Photo links included for
those interested or suffering from cabin fever.
I hope I never lose the wonder of what I see from my living room window that
looks directly down into the North Elkhorn Creek. In the past week its included
Wood Ducks, Hooded Mergansers and Otter. I certainly never expected diving
ducks on the headwaters of the North Elkhorn where it's narrow and shallow.
The Hooded Mergansers were catching fish and crayfish - crawfish - crawdads. I
think the crawdads would nip them because they would do sudden head shakes that
seemed like a reaction to sudden pain. They definitely didn't go down without a
fight.

Hooded Mergansers and Wood Ducks just being pretty:

I also got over to the pond just off Tates Creek in Lexington after reading
Spencer's reports where there is an amazing variety and number of ducks in such
a tiny pond that is bordered by 3 streets. Great place to go see some ducks!
I'm hoping someone can tell me if there are any Greater Scaups in my photos.
There were lots of them thus lots of photos.

Gadwall, Redheads, Bufflehead and Mallards that kept photo-bombing the others:

And finally just for the fun of it. I was struggling which name to use for
those little-lobster things and figured out why I'm so confused
as I've lived in areas in the past 5 years that claim each name. And
if you are really bored or interested here is map of which word to use by
location....
